  • What is the difference between cavern and cave diving?

Cavern diving in the beautiful cenotes can be experienced by any qualified Open Water Diver (or equivalent). One of our experienced and friendly guides will take you and provide a thorough briefing of the cavern diving rules to ensure your safety. You will always be within the daylight zone while following a permanent cavern line. Cave diving takes place in passages beyond the daylight zone and requires specialist training, which we can provide.

  • What is the water temperature

The water temperature for the cenotes is 24C-26C / 74-76F year round

  • What is the best time of year to visit

    whenever

  • What sort of exposure protection will I need?

We recommend long wetsuits with a minimum of 5mm for cavern dives and 7mm for courses and cave diving. If you have a dry suit for courses, it will serve you well as you will spend extended time in the water.

  • Should I bring my own equipment?

Guided diving: If you have the chance, bringing your own equipment will surely guarantee your maximum comfort level as you are familiar with it. If you do not want to or cannot carry your own, we do have quality equipment rentals at your disposal with backplate and wings, sidemount harnesses, regulators, boots and open heels fins, and 5mm long wetsuits.

Training: Please discuss with us the equipment you own or plan to purchase. Not all gear is suitable for technical / sidemount training or cave diving.

  • My partner, friends or family are non-divers, can they join us?

If your partner, friends or family are not divers, they are welcome to tag along with you to the cenote if there is snorkeling or other activities available to them to enjoy while you are diving. If we have room we are happy to take drive them, or we can arrange additional transport. If they are interested in diving themselves, we can arrange a Discover Scuba Diving experience and you are welcome to tag along on their first time underwater. We can also arrange snorkelling, visiting archeological sites, and other experiences for them to enjoy. For more info check out our land tours page.

  • What we expect from our students

Students are paying for a course, but certifications must be earned. We will do our utmost to ensure your skills and knowledge are at the level required to pass the course. If this means extra dives or academic sessions these will be charged at our daily rate. We do recommend allowing for an extra couple of days just in case and to allow for sickness, mid-course breaks, or other unforeseen events. You will be glad of the extra days even if they just end up being fun dives.

As you would expect, we ask our students to be on time, ready to learn, and with a good attitude. We understand that you are on holiday but showing up in the morning hungover will not be acceptable, meaning any diving will be cancelled with no refund. We would like to ask our students to respect our instructors, their private vehicles, and our rental gear.

  • Booking policy and payment

Our booking confirmation requires a 50% deposit in MXN or USD using bank transfer or cash. Where not covered in the daily rate cenote entrance fees will need to be paid in cash in MXN.

Most places in Tulum accept credit/debit card payments if you do not like to carry much cash. However, please bear in mind that the exchange rate might be unfavorable. Cash is often the best option.

To change money, local currency exchange offices in town are the best bet as hotels will usually give you a poor exchange rate.
To withdraw money use a bank ATM and try to avoid third-party ones which often charge hefty fees. Do not hesitate to ask us for recommendations.
